Pre-course requirements
No prerequisites are required.
It should be noted that it is understood that a greater learning will be obtained by the student if he/she is taking the 5th year of the Degree in Architecture, although it is perfectly possible to take it during the 4th year of Architecture.
This OPTATIVE is adapted to the calendar established in the 5th year, which differs from the organization established in the 4th year. That is to say, the course will be taught from week 11 of the course to week 18 of the course. The evaluation will consist only of a practical work (there will be no exam), which will be completed between weeks 19-20. Taking into account that each Semester consists of 15 weeks, the course will take place between the two Semesters.
Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme
- 14-T - Ability to conceive, calculate, design, integrate in buildings and urban complexes and execute enclosure systems, roofs and other structural work
- 25 - To acquire adequate knowledge of conventional building systems and their pathology
- 27 - To acquire adequate knowledge of industrialised building systems.
- 28 - To acquire knowledge of professional standards, association organizations, the professional structure and civil liability.
- 31 - To acquire knowledge of measurement, valuation and expert appraisal methods.
- 34-T - Ability to design, practice and develop basic and execution projects, sketches and blueprints.
- 37 - Ability to develop functional programmes for buildings and urban spaces.
- 40 - Ability to express architectural criticism.
- 41-T - Ability to find solutions for passive environmental conditioning, including thermal and acoustic insulation, climate control, energy performance and natural lighting.
- 44-T - Ability to produce civil works projects.
- 47-T - Ability to prepare environmental and landscaping surveys and plans to correct environmental impacts.
- 48 - To acquire adequate knowledge of the general theories of form, composition and architectural typologies
- 52 - To acquire adequate knowlege of the environment, sustainability and the principles of conserving energy and environmental resources.
- 63 - Ability to conceive, put into practice and develop architectural and urban planning projects adapting with new times.
- 66 - Ability to internalise architectural form.
- 73 - To acquire adequate knowledge of research, experimentation and innovation in architecture.
- 74 - To acquire adequate knowledge of new architectural concepts and practices.

In this research, the following experiences will also be carried out:
1. Specific visits with managers and researchers of Health Centers.
2. Monitoring of buildings and energy efficiency results: temperatures, air speed, solar radiation, average radiant temperature Trm, etc.
3. Monitoring of IAQ indoor air quality measurements using InBiot equipment.
4. Blower Door Test measurement of air infiltration in buildings, and energy quantification.
5. Energy performance simulations of buildings using the Design Builder tool.
Teaching and learning activities

Visit to Hospital Sant Joan de Déu (HSJD)
Management of people flows and their attention to the different services offered in large healthcare centers. Efficiency of the concatenation of services: protocol chains and signage. Horizontal and vertical transits and security.
Management of technical, energy and safety information.
Control and management of hospital services.
Standard HSJD floor plan. Health service spaces. Common areas. Areas for visitors. Common toilets.
Typical rooms of the HSJD. Typologies. Usual refurbishment and maintenance operations. Measurement of the degree of patient satisfaction.
Visit to the Hospital Mutua Terrassa
Typical floor plan of the HMT. Health service spaces. Common areas. Areas for visitors. Common toilets.
Typical rooms of the HMT. Typologies. Usual refurbishment and maintenance operations. Measurement of the degree of patient satisfaction.
Spaces for research. Laboratories. Spaces for facilities and maintenance.
Evaluation systems and criteria
In person
The evaluation will be continuous. Class attendance is required for a minimum of 7 of the 8 scheduled sessions. Attendance at each of these 7 sessions must be complete, and non-attendance at one of the sessions must be justified. Attendance is also required for the two sessions that involve visits to health centers: Visits to Hospital Mutua Terrassa (Session 2) and Hospital Sant Joan de Déu (Session 4). Otherwise, it will not be possible to pass the course.
The evaluation of 100% of the course will be done through the Course Work (TdC), which is of individual character. It will have two phases:
70 %. Presentation of the project document (plans, model, etc.). Specific requirements will be indicated later on.
30 %. Presentation and defense of the project before the professors, in a public session.
In order to pass the course successfully, it is required to comply with the attendance specifications described above, and a minimum evaluation of 5 points out of 10 in each of the two phases of the ToC.
The student will be able to sit for the second call provided that he/she has fulfilled the attendance requirements and has maintained a continuous evaluation of the ToC work throughout the 7 minimum sessions. If this is not the case, the student will not be able to submit the ToC in the second call, and therefore the evaluation will not be carried out.
