Introduction

Realización Televisiva is a subject of 4 ECTS credits that is taught during the second semester of the third year, which aims to open horizons and delve into the practical part of audiovisual production within the television medium. The subject works on the key concepts of language and audiovisual production in order to be able to face the planning and the elaboration of different television formats.

We work on the whole process of audiovisual production, from the idea to the final editing of pre-recorded videos as well as different practices of live television on set.

Pre-course requirements

Basic knowledge of recording and audio-visual editing are required.

Objectives

To know the processes and tasks of Realization in television from the order to the delivery of the final product, as much in live programs as in productions recorded previously.

Achieve maturity to be able to face with guarantees the audiovisual realization in different formats and contexts.

The subject is very practical and its aim is to achieve skills in television production through planning, recording and post-production.

Learning outcomes of the subject

Students, after taking the course, will be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes:

  • They will master the techniques of television production.
  • They will be able to establish performance criteria in the most current television genres.
  • They will have the ability to organize and coordinate all the logistics required by any audiovisual production. They will apply criteria in the different decisions within the television processes.
  • They will handle the cameras and other equipment of the realization with ease.
  • They will be able to make reports, which analyze the different elements that make up any television program.
  • They will perfect the audiovisual language.
  • They will consistently use the creative possibilities of the image as a narrative element.
  • They will become aware of the importance of visual resources in the different communicative messages.

Syllabus

1. BASIC CONCEPTS OF THE AUDIOVISUAL LANGUAGE APPLIED TO THE REALIZATION.

The basic principles and rules. The plan: framing, transitions, expressive planning.

2. PROCESSES AND STAGES OF THE REALIZATION.

From idea to Realization. Breakdowns and Production documents: scale, plant, production plan.

3. CANNED TELEVISION REALIZATION.

Filming planning. Equipment and documentation.

4. THE LIVE PERFORMANCE.

Multicamera Realization Planning. Production phases, documentation and protocols. Staging.

Management of technical and human resources for a live broadcast.

Teaching and learning activities

The subject will combine classes in the classroom from real audiovisual cases and viewed with group exercises to put into practice the work of realization in all its phases.

We will work as an audiovisual producer and students will devise, record and edit different audiovisual pieces.

TRAINING ACTIVITY ECTS CREDITS
Coaching. Monitoring how students learn the content of the subject, either individually or in groups. In the coaching sessions, mistakes will be corrected, queries answered, and exercises and activities to achieve the established objectives will be suggested. 0.8
Focused Praxis. Handing in occasional exercises to learn theory through practice. 0.4
Meeting Point. Meetings will be organised with notable people from the professional and scientific fields or the international field, and students. These sessions will take the form of conferences, work sessions, discussions, or interviews, etc. 0.4
Practical workshop. A highly practical working activity, where students can acquire skills that are practical or also theoretical (intellectual skills, logical skills, critical skills, intellectual learning skills, study skills, quoting skills, etc). 0.6
Lectures. In lectures, lecturers/professors not only transmit content or knowledge, but also, and above all else, attitudes, motivation, skills and values, etc. They also ensure that participants can express their opinions and arguments to the other students. 1.4
Mentoring programme. Ensuring a review of and in-depth look at competences and knowledge, as well as the development of habits involving social commitment and responsibility, with the strongest students providing guidance for students from lower years, particularly if they have any type of disability (physical, etc). 0.4

Evaluation systems and criteria

The evaluation will be based on different assignments that students must submit in groups and where the documentation provided, the concept of making each piece and the final result will be evaluated.

The exercises and weights are:

- Recording and editing a survey: 10%

- Recording and editing a guest profile: 10%

- Recording and editing a report: 10%

- Editing a program promo: 10%

- Design and preparation of documentation for a television format: 30%

- Live production of the format: 20%

- Participation: 10%

To pass in the first call, you must have completed all the assignments and have an average of 5. In order to pass in the second and subsequent calls, you will need to present an individual written work to be determined by the teacher.

In the delivery of the works, the regulations of the faculty in relation to misspellings and plagiarism will be strictly observed.
