La de pañuelo: Architecture Cladding Elements Inspired from Art-Deco Rolf Armstrong´s Painting: The Girl of The Hour

Passeig de la Fontana

Spring, Women & The Art of Adornment

Spring is a celebration of life, and nothing embodies its essence more than flowers—delicate, intricate, and full of beauty. Much like flowers, women’s beauty shines in the details of their presence, their grace, and their adornments.

Throughout history, accessories like scarves and headpieces have served as an extension of this beauty—rich with floral and organic patterns, inspired by the wonders of flora and fauna. This fascination with natural ornamentation extended beyond fashion into architecture, particularly in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements. Take Antoni Gaudí’s La Pedrera balcony railings—where iron twists and flows like a delicate veil. Or the ornate capitals of Palau Güell’s columns, reminiscent of a tiara with its sinuous, curvilinear forms.

In Art Deco, these influences took on a new life, as headpieces became a statement of exoticism and sophistication—elevating women’s fashion with bold, striking designs. The interplay of nature, femininity, and artistic expression continues to inspire across disciplines, reminding us that true beauty lies in the details.

An Invitation to Experience Beauty & Art

If you’re drawn to the elegance of nature and the timeless beauty of women’s adornments, you are invited to immerse yourself in a world of sophistication at the exhibition: "La del Panuelo."

Inspired by Rolf Armstrong’s iconic Art Deco painting "The Girl of the Hour", This exhibition showcases architectural cladding units and details of vibrant patterns and colors, echoing the rich traditions of ornamentation.

As an exploration of how Art Nouveau and Art Deco architecture captured the essence of beauty, drawing from nature and the human spirit. How do architectural details, with their flowing lines and intricate motifs, connect with our emotions? How does space become a story—one that speaks to the heart and mind?

Join us in this celebration of art, design, and heritage on April 7th at UIC and be part of a dialogue where architecture, nature, and beauty intertwine.
