‘Les aventures d'en Massagran’ at the 1st Vallès Children’s Comic Fair

Faculty of Education Sciences Faculty of Education Sciences, Campus Sant Cugat

On 27 November, the Faculty of Education Sciences will host the 1st Vallès Children’s Comic Fair, a literary event involving UIC students, pupils in years 3, 4 and 5 from primary schools across Vallès Occidental and schoolteachers.

The idea behind the fair is to create a space for collaboration between schools and the University, with a focus on reading aloud, comics and Catalan literature. At the heart is Les aventures d’en Massagran (The Adventures of Massagran) by Ramon Folch i Camarasa, commemorating the centenary of the author’s birth.

Workshops for pupils

The pupils will have the chance to take part in nine workshops designed and led by students on UIC’s Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education. Based on the Massagran comics, the workshops will introduce pupils in years 3, 4 and 5 of primary school to a range of topics in the natural sciences, establishing links between literature, comics and science through interactive, hands-on activities.

Roundtable discussion for teachers

Schoolteachers will be invited to take part in a roundtable discussion on reading aloud and comics as teaching tools. They will also have the opportunity to explore the legacy of Josep Maria Folch i Torres and Ramon Folch i Camarasa and how their work can be used to teach Catalan language and culture.

The session will also encourage reflection on the value of shared reading across generations. Berta Giraut, actor and speaker from the training programme Lectura en veu alta (Reading Aloud), and Jaume Vilarrubí, librarian and expert in comics and children’s and young adult literature, are among the participants confirmed for the roundtable discussion.

Schools wishing to actively take part in the event may register by completing this form.
