Opening ceremony and welcome to the UIC Barcelona Singing Contest

Faculty of Education Sciences

This event marks the beginning of the UIC Barcelona Singing Contest, opening the door to a week of music, learning and shared inspiration.

Part I: Opening ceremony and welcome to the UIC Barcelona Singing Contest
The opening ceremony of the UIC Barcelona Singing Contest will be presented by Dr Pere Buhigas, director of Radio 4 at RNE, who will welcome the audience, participants and judges. Following this, Dr Carolina Estrada Bascuñana, director of the contest, will outline the aims and values of this year’s edition.

Part II: Concert in tribute to Conxita Badia

The UIC Barcelona Singing Contest dedicates its inaugural concert to soprano Conxita Badia (1897–1975), one of the most distinguished voices in Catalan and Spanish song, a pupil of Enric Granados and muse to composers such as Toldrà and Gerhard. This tribute concert brings together works by composers who shaped her career – Robert Gerhard, Joan Comellas, Joan Lamote de Grignon, Eduard Toldrà and Enric Granados – all of whom featured in her repertoire and artistic legacy. This musical journey, rich in sensitivity and nostalgia, will be brought to life by the mezzo-soprano Marisa Martins and pianist Mac McClure.
