Biomedical Sciences student project garners recognition in the entrepreneurial ecosystem

Medyournal, a project developed by four students on the Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences at UIC Barcelona and one student from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), has become one of the standout initiatives within UIC Barcelona’s entrepreneurial ecosystem this academic year, after receiving several accolades in innovation and entrepreneurship.

UIC Barcelona students Ana Zuluaga, Valentí García, Tomás Tomeo and Luis Sanz developed the digital platform, which is designed to continuously monitor patients with lung cancer using an Apple Watch and clinical questionnaires. The system generates a risk index that alerts the patient's healthcare team in real time, helping to bridge the information gap between medical appointments and supporting a more proactive approach to care. The solution also helps optimise healthcare resources and reduce healthcare costs.

In just one academic year, the team has transformed an initial idea into an innovative project that has already received recognition through a number of entrepreneurship programmes and initiatives:
●    First prize in the Startup Pioneer Programme (SPP), which enabled the team to take part in South Summit Madrid 2026, one of the leading international events in innovation and entrepreneurship.
●    Santander X University Entrepreneurial Projects Award 2026, shared with Good Microbiome, a project represented by Roger Solsona Rovira, also a student at UIC Barcelona.
●    Participation in the Young Talent Forum organised by the Princess of Girona Foundation, where the team presented its project to representatives of the entrepreneurial ecosystem using an elevator pitch and took part in a range of networking activities. The students also had the chance to attend the Princess of Girona Awards ceremony, held at Barcelona's Gran Teatre del Liceu.

These accolades highlight the talent, initiative and entrepreneurial potential of UIC Barcelona students, as well as their ability to transform knowledge acquired in the classroom into innovative projects with a tangible impact on society.
