Carla Mozas wins the award for Clinical Research from the European Federation of Periodontology

The award deems the researcher’s contribution to have been the best clinical research in Europe in 2019, according to the Federation. The clinical trial involved modifying patients’ prostheses in order to improve treatment of peri-implant mucositis

Carla Mozas, periodontics researcher at UIC Barcelona Faculty of Dentistry, has received the award for Clinical Research from the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) for her participation in the study “Adjunctive effect of modifying the implant‐supported prosthesis in the treatment of peri‐implant mucositis”. The research led by Dr Mozas involved carrying out clinical aspects of the study, such as modifying the implant prostheses to help facilitate access to oral hygiene when treating peri-implant mucositis, and monitoring patients taking part in the trial over the first six months.

“From day one, our entire team saw how necessary it was to continue researching and publishing research on peri-implant diseases given their prevalence”, explained Carla Mozas. “We are starting to see the clinical repercussions this study is having following its publication, thanks to the simplicity of the protocol and the effectiveness of the results.”

This project in particular was also given the Fonseca Award 2020 for best scientific publication, presented to Dr Beatriz de Tapia, another leading author of this study alongside Dr Carla Mozas.
