Carole El Ghoul receives the Alejandro López Quiroga Award from the Spanish Dental Foundation for best Final Degree Project

The award ceremony took place as part of the latest edition of the prize, which is awarded by the Spanish Dental Council and the Spanish Dental Foundation in recognition of the people and institutions that have contributed to promoting and improving dentistry in Spain

Carole El Ghoul, Dentistry student at UIC Barcelona, has received the Alejandro López Quiroga Award in recognition of her Final Degree Project titled “The influence of collagen de-proteinising pre-treatments on adhesive resistance to eroded dentin: an in vitro study”.

As El Ghoul explains, “the objective of this degree project, which was supervised by Dr Marta Vallès, is to provide practical solutions for the profession and find innovative approaches that improve adhesion to eroded dentin, a common challenge in our daily practice”. “I think that researching new pre-treatments is not only important and exciting, but also opens the door to minimally invasive dentistry”, she adds.

Carole El Ghoul is currently pursuing her doctorate in Health Sciences at the University, focusing on the field of Restorative Dentistry and Dental Materials. She was the first student to participate in this new category at the awards, created in memory of the undersecretary and deputy treasurer of the Spanish Dental Council. “Receiving this award is really gratifying, as it’s a reminder that facing challenges is worthwhile when addressed with determination and love for the profession”, said the winner.

The new edition of the annual awards offered by the Spanish Dental Council and the Spanish Dental Foundation (Fundación Dental Española, or FDE) has once again recognised people and organisations that have made a real impact on the dentistry sector. This year, two new categories were added: the Board of Trustees Award and the Alejandro López Quiroga Award.
