The award, in the category of Teaching and Medical Training, recognises the career and contribution of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences lecturer to the education of future doctors.
Dr Joaquim Rigau, lecturer in the Department of Medicine at UIC Barcelona and formerly associated with the Hospital General de Granollers during his clinical practice, has been honoured with the Professional Excellence Award granted annually by the Barcelona Medical Association (Col·legi Oficial de Metges de Barcelona – CoMB) in the category of Teaching and Medical Training. The award ceremony took place on 1 December at the L’illa Auditorium in Barcelona, in an event that brought together nearly 500 attendees and celebrated the work of 51 professionals and four healthcare teams.
This recognition highlights Dr Rigau’s professional career, marked by his commitment to medical education, academic excellence and a strong sense of service. A specialist in Digestive System Medicine, Dr Rigau remained professionally linked to the Hospital General de Granollers – a university hospital affiliated with the Faculty – until his retirement, where he carried out outstanding clinical and teaching work.
The CoMB Professional Excellence Awards, established in 2004, have become one of the most prestigious honours in the Catalan healthcare sector. They acknowledge professional careers characterised by altruism, integrity, teamwork and excellence in medical practice. Over more than two decades, close to one thousand professionals and more than fifty healthcare teams have received these awards.
