Executive meeting of the University Advisory Board: strategic drive and new leadership
The University Advisory Board bolsters its structure with new leaders in the Education and Institutional committees and consolidates strategic lines of work
On 10 February, the University Advisory Board (CAU) held its executive meeting to track the progress of the University’s main strategic initiatives and reinforce member involvement in the ten committees that are currently active.
The session was chaired by the CAU president, Mr Francesc Homs, who welcomed the attendees and stressed the importance of Board members being actively involved in an increasingly demanding and competitive university environment. During the meeting, it was announced that two key committees would be headed by new leaders.
In this regard, a warm welcome was extended to Ms Teresa Martínez, president of the NGO OIDEL, the International Organisation for the Right to Education and Freedom of Teaching, who takes over as president of the Education Committee. Her background, both at home and abroad, in the right to education and freedom of teaching will bring a strategic and global vision to the University’s academic and educational challenges.
In addition, Ms Montserrat Trapé, advisor to Criteria Caixa, Meliá Hotels International and Europastry, as well as a UIC Barcelona alum, has been appointed president of the Institutional Committee. Her experience in the business and corporate sectors will help further the University’s institutional reach and strengthen its position within the current socioeconomic context.
During the session, Dr Josep M. Torné, general manager of the University, outlined some of the ongoing strategic projects, focusing on initiatives aimed at ensuring academic growth, teaching excellence and institutional consolidation.
Meanwhile, the presidents of the various committees presented the main lines of work in which they are engaged alongside the vice-rectors and deans. These joint efforts enable the governing team to leverage the experience and knowledge of distinguished professionals from fields such as education, health, communication, architecture, culture and business.
Mr Juan Pablo Garrido, director of the CAU, together with the president, detailed the measures aimed at encouraging greater engagement among Board members, promoting active involvement across the ten committees and new collaborative dynamics. Key objectives include reinforcing the Board’s advisory and strategic capacity and cementing its role as a bridge between the University and civil society.
The University Advisory Board brings together prominent figures from the business, legal, cultural, health and educational sectors, who, with their experience and commitment, support the strategic development of UIC Barcelona. Through its committees, the CAU provides specialised advice and helps drive the University’s educational mission, reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence and the comprehensive education of its students.
