The Faculty of Dentistry’s social commitment programme, honoured at the 2025 ADEE-HALEON Preventative Oral Health in Society Awards

Dr Lluís Giner, Faculty dean, and Dr María Arregui, member of the Faculty teaching staff, were tasked with collecting the prize awarded by the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) during the annual congress in Dublin

With this award, the Faculty of Dentistry at UIC Barcelona has seen its programme Caring for Smiles, Changing Lives recognised, reflecting the Faculty’s social commitment to promoting oral health and supporting the most vulnerable populations.

The Caring for Smiles, Changing Lives programme, spearheaded together with industry companies and organisations that share the Faculty of Dentistry’s values, ensures preventive oral health interventions for people experiencing homelessness, patients with special needs and institutionalised persons. These actions also help prevent related systemic conditions, maintain the population’s overall health and promote oral hygiene habits among vulnerable groups.

The programme also contributes to the comprehensive education of the Faculty’s students, affording them the opportunity to actively address the needs of those most vulnerable and have a positive impact on society.

This international distinction reinforces UIC Barcelona’s commitment to social, preventive and community-oriented dentistry.

The ADEE HALEON Preventative Oral Health in Society Awards recognise projects of particular interest that promote health within the framework of education.
