The Faculty of Humanities launches a collaboration with Cases Singulars to celebrate different commemorations during the year

Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr Judith Urbano, presented a total of three conferences over the academic year to celebrate important dates: World Urbanism Day, Modernism Day and International Women’s Day

Judith Urbano, dean of the Faculty of Humanities, was the speaker at three conferences organised during the academic year at UIC Barcelona with the collaboration of the Cases Singulars project. The presentations took place in person and online, and focused on town planning, women artists throughout history and Modernist artists.

The series started in November with a presentation dedicated to the urbanism of Barcelona and to Idelfons Cerdà, the engineer responsible for the Eixample project. Urbano, as part of the World Urban Planning Day, provided an overview of the city's urban history, from the Roman era to the present day. She spoke about the main contributions of the Cerdà Plan, which laid the foundations of the new Barcelona with the Passeig de Gràcia as the main thoroughfare.

At the second meeting which took place on 8 March, International Women's Day, Judith Urbano spoke of women artists throughout history, reviewing some self-portraits and portraits by different women artists at different times and historical periods.

Finally, at the third session in June, as part of World Modernism Day, she discussed how the architects of the day collaborated with other artists and craftsmen to shape the modernist houses of the time, working with iron, mosaic, sculpture and glass, among others. Urbano highlighted the work of professionals such as Josep Llimona, sculptor who participated in works such as the reliefs of the Arc of Triumph or the monument to Christopher Columbus in the port of Barcelona; Antoni Rigalt i Blanch, who actively collaborated in the creation of the Palau de la Música Catalana or Casa León Morera; and Eusebi Arnau Mascort, who participated in the creation of the Sant Pau Hospital, among others.
