The general director of the Liceu, Valentí Oviedo, sponsors the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Humanities

Students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities and Cultural Studies and the University Master’s Degree in Cultural Management celebrated their graduation ceremony on 3 July in the Aula Magna on the Barcelona Campus

The event was presided over by the dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr Judith Urbano, and featured Mr Valentí Oviedo Cornejo, general director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu Foundation – one of the world’s leading opera houses – as sponsor of the graduating class.

Oviedo, who delivered the formal address, highlighted the role of culture as a driver of social transformation and encouraged students to approach their professional futures with responsibility, curiosity and a commitment to society. “We must be able to create cultural projects that engage the public, foster critical thinking and build community,” the general director of the Liceu remarked during his speech.

The dean of the Faculty, Dr Judith Urbano, went on to share a heartfelt message recognising the work carried out by the students and the commitment of the teaching staff. “You have chosen a holistic education, a broad view of the world, and that will stay with you for life,” she said.

Christoph Pasour, director of the University Master’s Degree in Cultural Management, also spoke, using his speech to remind the audience that “culture finds its dignity and its strength in resistance, in free and critical thought, in the exploration of independent forms of expression.”

The ceremony also included speeches from the student representatives of both the bachelor’s and master’s programmes, who recalled the experiences shared over the past years and thanked their lecturers, the Faculty team and their families for their support throughout their university journey.

The event concluded with the awarding of diplomas and the traditional singing of the university anthem, Gaudeamus Igitur. With this celebration, the Faculty of Humanities bids farewell to a new graduating class, who now join the UIC Barcelona Alumni community.
