High turnout at CEBUIC 2025, the UIC Barcelona Biomedicine student congress
On 8, 9 and 10 July UIC Barcelona’s Sant Cugat Campus hosted CEBUIC 2025, a congress organised entirely by undergraduate students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences, with the aim of bringing science closer to the university community and showcasing the diversity of professional opportunities in the biomedical sector
Over three days, the congress brought together students, graduates, doctoral candidates and professionals in a programme designed to explore the three main branches of biomedicine: bioinformatics, business and basic research. The sessions included practical workshops to develop soft skills; career guidance in the pharmaceutical industry delivered by Biolynx; a hall escape room organised by the Spanish Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SEBBM); robotics and virtual reality workshops for guided anatomy study; and personalised career guidance sessions with Santi Marfà, business development director at GP Pharm. The congress also featured round‑table discussions with former students and doctoral candidates, who shared their experiences and gave advice to those in attendance.
This third edition of CEBUIC offered a varied programme aligned with the latest trends and interests in the biomedical sector, with renowned speakers such as Mercedes Pintos, global clinical operations programme director at AstraZeneca; and Dr Jaume Mora, scientific director of the Paediatric Cancer Centre Barcelona at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, who shared their vision and expertise with the congress participants.
One of the highlights was a live interview with “La Carloteca”, an emerging science communicator, on the podcast ¡Que la ciencia te acompañe!, which offers future science professionals new formats for outreach.
As the organisers pointed out, “This third edition enjoyed excellent participation and created a fantastic collaborative atmosphere.” “We are delighted with the success of CEBUIC, as it is becoming a key event for the university biomedical community. As students who organise this congress voluntarily, it is something that makes us extremely proud,” they added.
With this edition, CEBUIC reaffirms its commitment to promoting the comprehensive education of future professionals in biomedicine, combining academic knowledge, career guidance and transferable skills in an open, innovative space for dialogue.
