The IMMA Awards put the finishing touch on the academic year in the Faculty of Communication Sciences

A total of six projects received an award designed by students from the School of Architecture.

The academic year in the Faculty of Communication Sciences is now over. For some, the IMMA Awards Gala marked the end of first year at UIC Barcelona; while for others, it put the finishing touch on their time at the university, in a celebration involving students from all years.

One of the novel features of the 9th edition of the IMMA Awards was that, in addition to recognising the Best Final Degree Projects (TFGs), three other distinctions were also handed out.

As a result, the award for best TFG from the Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication went to the project “Agoraphobia”, by Neus Miravitlles, Carlos Ortega, Airam Rubio and Cristian Vargas. In Journalism, it was presented to Aleix Domènech, Jorge Lindoso and Adrián Pérez for their project “Switzer’s”, while, in the Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising and Public Relations, recognition went to “Rose Gold”, by Maria Jacoste. In all three cases, the prize was an Instax camera and an award in the shape of an “i”, crafted by Architecture students Oriol Marty and Genís Vilalta, with help from the manager of the Architectural Models Workshop, Carmelo Santana.

As for this year’s new honours, the project “A los veinte”, by Elizabeth Lorda, was named Best Miscellaneous Project in Audiovisual Communication. In the same category, but in the Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising and Public Relations, the award went to the project “Imaginbank”, by María Llabres, Xavi Matas, Joan Montané, James Eoin Killoran, Maria Cornado, Alberto Lorenzo and Alejandro Rico. Lastly, special mention was made of the project with the Best Values. Here, Aleix Domènech, Jorge Lindoso and Adrián Pérez took home their second award for the project “Switzer’s”. This award was handed out by the dean of the Faculty, Alfonso Méndiz.

In the 9th edition of the event, sponsored by Fujifilm, Vervening and L’Sara, there were three outstanding juries, one for each bachelor’s degree.

In the Journalism category: journalist and consultant Ismael Nafría; journalist and director of VIA Empresa, Laia Corbella; and journalist and editor of the Media section of the newspaper Ara, Àlex Gutiérrez. In the Audiovisual Communication category, the jury was comprised of filmmaker and photographer Alex Llopis; film booker and analyst at Cinesa, Lluis Ruscalleda; and film producer and Audiovisual Communication lecturer Sonia Martínez.  Lastly, in the Advertising and Public Relations category, the jury consisted of the vice-dean of Advertising for the Association of Publicists and Public Relations of Catalonia, Victor Curto, in addition to association members Ton del Pozo and Mercedes Piera.

An intimate, fresh gala

Javier Cumellas (4th-year Journalism student), Samir Chaoui (1st-year Advertising and PR student) and Jane-Claudine Cantor (2nd-year Audiovisual Communication) were charged with hosting this fresh, dynamic gala.

The voice-overs which sounded during the event were provided by Audiovisual Communication student Miquel Costa, while second-year students Jane-Claudine Cantor and Fran Balada were in charge of scripts.

The combined efforts of the faculties culminated in a performance by two musicians: Santiago Vancells (2nd-year Advertising student) and Pablo Samsó (3rd-year Law student).
