José Antonio González, partner at Deloitte, patron of the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences
The event brought together students from 26 countries enrolled in bachelor’s, master's, and postgraduate degrees of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, who received their diplomas in a graduation ceremony that highlighted internationalisation, social commitment, and the construction of a purposeful professional future.
Students from the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences at UIC Barcelona celebrated their graduation ceremony on Friday, 29 May, in the Aula Magna of the Barcelona campus. The ceremony was presided over by the dean of the Faculty, Marta Mas, and the vice-deans Frederic Marimon and David Tanganelli. José Antonio González, partner at Deloitte, acted as patron of the graduation.
During his speech, José Antonio González focused on authenticity and self-knowledge: "In life, everything material is repeated. The special is found in each person; you are unique. Therefore, before deciding, it is important to know yourself well. I like to talk about personal SWOT analysis: we all have different abilities and our own path to follow," he stated. The patron also highlighted the value of professional relationships forged during university years, recalling a recent reunion with his former colleagues from INEDE.
The patron of the class joined Deloitte in 1995. He led the Zaragoza offices and has held various positions of responsibility, such as vice-president of the Association of Chartered Accountants of Catalonia. He has also served as a lecturer at various universities, including UIC Barcelona, where he has taught auditing sessions.
This year's graduation ceremony included students from 26 nationalities, from the Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Management, the Master's Degree in Business Administration and Production Systems, the Master's Degree in Data Science and Advanced Analytics, the Master's Degree in Entrepreneurship Financing: Venture Capital and Private Equity, and the Master's Degree in Cooperation, Development and Social Economy.
For the first time, the Caritas Award for Social Commitment was presented, recognising Business Administration student Judith Salvador González for her work focusing on the environmental impact of B Corp certifications in Spain.
In her speech, Dean Marta Mas advocated for a person-centred education based on professional excellence: "Commit to your development and to society. Always put people at the centre of your decisions."
The ceremony concluded with the awarding of diplomas to the graduates and the traditional singing of the university anthem Gaudeamus Igitur. With this event, the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences bids farewell to a new class of professionals and welcomes them to the UIC Barcelona Alumni community.
