Juan Gallostra discusses "Net-Zero" buildings in a guest lecture at the School of Architecture

Juan Gallostra, president of JG Ingenieros, was the speaker at the second session of the lecture series as part of the Final Bachelor's Degree Project of the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture. Under the title "Designing and Building Net-Zero Buildings", the session drew an audience of architecture students and professionals.

During his talk, Gallostra shared insights from his professional experience and offered a reflection on the role of architectural design in the shift towards more sustainable building models.

At the core of the lecture was the concept of Net-Zero buildings – structures whose annual energy demand is fully met through renewable energy generated either on-site or in their immediate surroundings.

The speaker underlined the technical feasibility of this type of building. He highlighted the challenge and opportunity posed by positive-energy buildings – those capable of producing more energy than they consume – as an ambitious goal for the coming years.

The lecture formed part of the Final Bachelor's Degree Project (TFG) for fifth-year Architecture students.  This academic project marks the culmination of their undergraduate studies and puts to the test their ability to integrate technical knowledge, innovation, and environmental responsibility.

Through sessions like this, UIC Barcelona reaffirms its commitment to innovative, responsible architecture that is aligned with the major environmental challenges of our time.
