Lecturer Xavier Baró takes part in the 7th International Forum “Russia and Ibero-America in a turbulent world”

Dr Baró analysed the role of socialist Albania in translating the classics of socialism – Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin – into Spanish, as well as works by Albanian leaders and ideologues, particularly Enver Hoxha

Xavier Baró, lecturer in the Faculty of Humanities at UIC Barcelona, took part in the seventh edition of the international forum “Russia and Ibero-America in a turbulent world: from shared challenges to joint solutions”, held from 1–3 October at Saint Petersburg State University and jointly organised with the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ILA RAN).

In his presentation, Dr Baró analysed the role of socialist Albania in translating the classics of socialism – Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin – into Spanish, as well as works by Albanian leaders and ideologues, particularly Enver Hoxha. His study highlights the dissemination of these translations in Latin America and among sectors of the radical Spanish left. It also shows how the selection of documents for translation offers insight into the evolution of Albania’s domestic policy.

This forum is Russia’s most prominent event dedicated to socio-political and economic processes, history and culture in Latin America. It regularly brings together leading politicians, academics and journalists from Ibero-American countries and Russia. Dr Baró’s participation in this international event strengthens UIC Barcelona’s presence in the field of research and humanistic reflection within international academic contexts.
