Lecturer Xavier Escribano presents his latest book, ‘Living on Air, Thinking About Breathing’

The La Central bookstore in Raval hosted the presentation of the most recent book by the expert in human corporeality. The book, the result of a collective effort by twenty authors, explores breathing from an anthropological and interdisciplinary perspective

On 29 November, Dr Xavier Escribano, lecturer in the Faculty of Humanities at UIC Barcelona and coordinator of the SARX Research Group on the Anthropology of Corporeality (2021 SGR 567), presented his second book, Vivir del aire, pensar la respiración [Living on Air, Thinking About Breathing], at the La Central bookstore in Raval (Barcelona). The work, published in February of this year, compiles contributions from twenty national and international authors who have reflected on breathing as an element that unifies the physical, psychological and spiritual dimensions of people.

During the presentation, the author was joined by three of the co-authors featured in the collection: Bernat Torres (UAB), Ester Vendrell (Theatre Institute of Barcelona) and Eulàlia Polls (URV). The work also includes contributions from Josep Olives, the first dean of the Faculty of Humanities at UIC Barcelona, who wrote the foreword and who sadly passed away this past June, and four lecturers from the Faculty of Humanities: Albert Moya, Isabel Morales Benito, Abel Miró and Martín Curiel.

The book provides an anthropological, philosophical and interdisciplinary perspective on a universal yet often overlooked phenomenon, offering a contribution in a field commonly approached from a medical standpoint.
