Lluís Giner highlights the social role of the Faculty of Dentistry in the book 'Tertulias nocturnas' by Dr Pedro Clarós
The dean of the faculty, together with Alfonso Méndiz, rector of UIC Barcelona, has contributed to the chapter titled Hacia una universidad más social (Towards a More Socially Engaged University), where he highlights the Faculty of Dentistry’s commitment to providing oral healthcare to vulnerable individuals and its crucial role in the comprehensive training of future professionals
Specifically, in the chapter Hacia una universidad más social (Towards a More Socially Engaged University), Dr Lluís Giner discusses with Dr Pedro Clarós the importance of training students in social dentistry so that “they come into contact with this more human aspect of patient care, which goes beyond their professional field and will help shape them into well-rounded professionals.”
In the chapter, Dr Giner also shares with Dr Clarós and the readers some of the Faculty of Dentistry’s social commitment initiatives. These include both local solidarity programmes involving students and lecturers, as well as international projects such as the Edugascar programme. At this point, the dean of the faculty emphasises that “taking part in some of these international humanitarian missions has been possible thanks to the support of Dr Clarós, who has extensive experience in this field and has paved the way.”
The chapter Hacia una universidad más social is part of a book that brings together conversations between Dr Pedro Clarós – renowned otolaryngologist and founder of the Clarós Foundation for humanitarian aid in emerging countries – and outstanding figures from various fields, including Pilar Eyre, Joan Manuel Serrat, Mayka Navarro, Víctor Amela, and other personalities from the artistic, academic, and institutional spheres.
