On October 18, in celebration of Sustainability Day in Madrid, the UIC Barcelona Chair of Management by Missions, Corporate Excellence and the DPMC Foundation received the 2022 Sustainability Actions Award for their project Purpose-Driven Organizations, a manual for implementing and measuring purpose in organisations. The project, led by Dr Carlos Rey, lecturer for the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, was developed following the three-dimensional model of purpose. This model promotes developing purpose in the dimensions of authenticity, coherence and integrity related to knowledge, motivation and action.
“This award is the recognition of the 15 years of scientific research that has been developed by the entire team under the Chair of the Management by Missions, and at the same time, is recognition of the good that the implementation of this tool in companies implies for society,” Carlos Rey said after receiving the award.
The award-winning project promotes the creation of tools available to the Chair of Management by Missions for purpose measurement in organisations. “From the Chair, we address knowledge transfer with these tools, which are available to companies with the purpose of making a real implementation in the organisations, always avoiding ‘purpose washing,’” Rey said.
Purpose-Driven Organizations. Management Ideas for a Better World offers solutions to ensure that employees support a differentiating and unique shared purpose, while the organisation benefits from the individual purposes of each employee. The book calls for a change of model when doing business and offers a vision based on scientific rigor for both educators and professionals. “Purpose measurement is a complex concept that requires rigor, and we can only achieve this with scientific research,” assured the director of the Chair.
The UIC Barcelona Chair of Management by Missions, together with the DPMC Foundation, makes their purpose measurement tools available to organisations on its website, as well as the manual, Purpose-Driven Organizations (Open Access).
