Nine UIC Barcelona researchers among the world’s most influential, according to Stanford University
For the fourth consecutive year, researchers from various disciplines at UIC Barcelona have been included in the prestigious Ranking of the World Scientists: World’s Top 2% Scientists, compiled by Stanford University and published in Elsevier
This international ranking recognises the top 2% of the world’s most influential scientists. The 2025 edition includes 236,129 researchers across 22 different fields. Of these, 4,266 are based in Spain, including nine lecturers and researchers from UIC Barcelona.
The results are presented in two separate lists: the first highlights the most cited individuals throughout 2024; the second ranks the most prominent researchers based on their entire career trajectory, measured up to 1 August 2025.
The first list includes researchers and teachers from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Faculty of Dentistry, and the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture.
The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is represented in this index by the University’s vice-rector for research, innovation and knowledge transfer, Román Pérez, along with three researchers and lecturers from the Department of Medicine. These are dermatologist Ramon Grimalt, who remains on the list for another year; paediatrician Albert Balaguer; and anatomical pathology specialist María Teresa Fernández, who joins the index for the first time.
From the Faculty of Dentistry, the list includes Professor José Nart, head of the periodontics area; Professor Federico Hernández-Alfaro, head of the oral and maxillofacial surgery area; periodontics lecturer Alberto Monje; and researcher and lecturer Jordi Gargallo.
The researcher Lorenzo Chelleri from the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture appears once again in the ranking.
UIC Barcelona is also included in the Stanford University classification recognising researchers with a high-impact career in their respective fields Specifically, the list includes María Teresa Fernández, lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, as well as Federico Hernández-Alfaro and Alberto Monje, professor and lecturer respectively in the Faculty of Dentistry, for their extensive research contributions in their areas of expertise.
Published in Elsevier, the ranking measures scientific influence using various parameters, including the number of indexed publications, citations received, h-index, co-authorship, and a composite indicator of research impact (score).
