The renowned presenter Jordi Hurtado, patron of the Faculty of Communication Sciences’ graduating class
On 6 June, students from the Bachelor’s Degrees in Journalism, Audiovisual Communication, Advertising and Public Relations, as well as the Master’s Degree in Fashion Communication and Marketing, received their graduation certificates in a solemn ceremony
Final-year bachelor’s and master’s students graduated in an event held at the Aula Magna on the Barcelona Campus, a memorable occasion presided over by the dean of the Faculty, Dr Pedro Sigaud, with Mr Jordi Hurtado, journalist and television presenter, acting as patron of the graduating class.
Up to 90 young graduates from this year’s class received their certificates during the emotional ceremony, in which patron Jordi Hurtado addressed the audience. “The leap into professional life is not easy, but you must believe in your abilities. My motto has always been to put in the effort, have vocation, and strive for work well done,” said the television presenter during his speech, reflecting on his 40-year career at Televisión Española.
A leading figure in broadcast journalism, Jordi Hurtado has hosted the quiz show Saber y Ganar for 28 years, earning the 2022 International Ondas Television Award for his work. Hurtado is therefore a role model for aspiring communicators, with a solid and extensive career. “We have put in a lot of hard work and believed in the programme from the start. I have witnessed the transformation of radio and television, and I can tell you that the most important thing is to surround yourselves with great talent,” Hurtado advised the students.

The dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Dr Pedro Sigaud, also addressed the audience. Referring to a speech by tennis player Roger Federer, Sigaud encouraged students to be steadfast in their values: “Winning does not always mean doing everything perfectly, but being prepared and consistent,” said Sigaud, paraphrasing the athlete. He also urged them to “put the ups and downs of professional life into perspective” and to surround themselves “with the best team,” such as friends and family.
Student representatives also spoke during the event, highlighting the strong bond within their year group and expressing gratitude towards the teaching staff. “Today we finish the chapter we started writing in September 2021, wearing masks and standing one metre apart,” recalled Luis Cerdeira, representative of the Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism.
