The ROQA project promotes the continuous improvement of teaching through observation and collaboration between teachers
On Thursday 20 February, a focus group marked the closure of the first application of the Recognition and Observation of Teaching Qualities (ROQA) project, promoted by the Quality and Teaching Innovation Classroom. ROQA is an initiative that brings teachers together from the same field to foster a community of learning, aimed at improving teaching practice in the classroom.
The project aims for professionals to recognise their qualities as teachers while striving for excellence through a continuous improvement process. The project is a voluntary initiative in which the teaching pairs carry out mutual classroom observations, with mutual agreement and confidentiality as key elements among each pair. Based on these observations, faculty groups take part in a joint session to share insights, experiences, and lessons learned, as well as to propose improvements for the next academic year. The initiative provides participants with structured reflection and planning tools, facilitated by the Quality and Teaching Innovation Classroom.
The ROQA programme is voluntary and is carried out among colleagues with different levels of experience in a constructive and formative environment that promotes a positive teaching culture. Throughout the process, various methodologies are applied through specific and measurable exercises, focusing on the process rather than the outcomes. The faculty is only informed of the formation of the groups and the completion of classroom observations, which are not intended for evaluation purposes.
Last Thursday’s focus group involved five teaching pairs who conducted their classroom observations throughout the first semester. In the upcoming semester, 13 more pairs are expected to participate.
