Sara Puig, member of the University Advisory Board at UIC Barcelona, named Barcelona Woman of the Year 2025
The President of the Joan Miró Foundation has received the award from El Periódico, which recognises key figures who have contributed to the progress of the city of Barcelona.
Sara Puig, president of the Joan Miró Foundation and member of the University Advisory Board (CAU) at UIC Barcelona, has been named Barcelona Woman of the Year 2025 by El Periódico. This recognition is part of the second edition of an award that honours individuals from a variety of fields who have made a decisive contribution to the progress of the city of Barcelona.
The judging panel highlighted Puig's career as president of the Joan Miró Foundation, a leading institution in the artistic and cultural sphere of the Catalan capital. Puig holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from the University of Barcelona and a Master’s Degree in Art Administration (Museums) from New York University. She combines a deep understanding of the art world with extensive experience in cultural management.
Throughout her career, she has worked at internationally renowned institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the MACBA Foundation, and the Francisco Godia Foundation, where she served as director from 1998 to 2012. Since 2019, she has led the Joan Miró Foundation, strengthening its role as a platform for both local and international engagement.
Upon receiving the news, Puig expressed her gratitude: “Being awarded Barcelona Woman of the Year is a tremendous honour. I feel deeply connected to Barcelona and, through the Joan Miró Foundation, I am fortunate and privileged to work to share art and creativity with the city and the world. This recognition is especially moving, and even more so to share it with Ramon Agenjo – a dear friend and passionate advocate for our city.”
In this edition, El Periódico also named Ramon Agenjo as Barcelona Man of the Year. Agenjo, a board member at Damm and current president of Barcelona Global, was recognised for his contribution to the city’s economic, cultural and social development The award ceremony takes place today, 17 September, in the gardens of Palau Robert, in an event presided over by the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni.
