Talent, commitment and purpose: guiding themes of the University Faculty Closing Session
Today the Aula Magna hosted the traditional University Faculty Closing Session, during which the Executive Committee of the Governing Board reviewed the 2024–2025 academic year and outlined future directions
The rector of UIC Barcelona, Dr Alfonso Méndiz, opened the Closing Session for the 2024–2025 academic year, which was attended by all members of the Executive Committee of the Governing Board. The rector, vice-rectors and the general manager presented the key areas of work within their respective departments and services, and shared with academic and administrative staff the strategic projects that define the university’s roadmap. The session addressed topics such as talent, internationalisation, research and knowledge transfer, impact and social commitment in line with UIC Barcelona’s purpose: to humanise the transformation of society.
Miguel Ángel Cazcarra, chair of the Board of Trustees, took part in the event to announce the appointments approved by the board at its most recent meeting, which will take effect on 1 September. Regarding the executive committee of the governing board, Cristina Monforte will take on the role of first vice-rector and vice-rector for Planning, Quality and Strategic Development; Marta Mas will become vice-rector for Academic Staff and Academic Planning; and Susana García Montes will join the Governing Board as director of Talent.
Next, the secretary general, Belén Castro, officially read out the appointments and renewals approved for the upcoming academic year. With regard to the faculties and institutes, the Board of Trustees has appointed Laura Gandolfi as dean of the Faculty of Humanities; Toni Mora as dean of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences; Iñigo Ugalde as dean of the School of Architecture; and Marc Grau as director of the Institute for Advanced Family Studies.
The assembly concluded with a tribute to members of the university community celebrating 10 and 25 years of service at UIC Barcelona. The university anthem, which was premiered this academic year during the celebration of Saint Cecilia, patron saint of music, was played to mark the occasion. The piece, composed by Carlos Checa, principal and artistic director of the Jove Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona and member of the University Advisory Council, brought the event to a moving close.
