Three Paediatric Dentistry students are recognised for their research at the SEOP Annual Meeting
Alongside members of the teaching staff from the Comprehensive and Hospital-Based Paediatric Dentistry Area, the students took part in the field’s main scientific event, held in Zaragoza, where they presented several papers and posters
The Faculty of Dentistry played a prominent role at the Annual Meeting of the Spanish Society of Paediatric Dentistry (SEOP), held in Zaragoza from 14 to 16 May. During the congress, the students presented their work in paper and poster formats, sharing research on highly relevant topics such as the development of permanent dentition and the impact of dental treatments on the quality of life of paediatric patients and their families.
The award-winning works include that by Rober Andrade, a second-year student from the University Master’s Degree in Comprehensive and Hospital-Based Paediatric Dentistry, who received the María Luisa Gozalvo Award for Best Paper for his study entitled “Cronología y secuencia de erupción de la dentición permanente en una población pediátrica de Barcelona según factores neonatales” (Chronology and sequence of permanent tooth eruption in a cohort of children from Barcelona according to neonatal factors).
Meanwhile, María Ignacia Rovira, a first-year student from the same master’s programme, was named second runner-up in the Ángel Bellet Award for Best New Paper, presented for the first time by SEOP. With her work “Impacto del tratamiento odontológico bajo anestesia general en la calidad de vida oral y el bienestar familiar del paciente pediátrico. Una revisión de la literatura” (Impact of dental treatment under general anaesthesia on oral health-related quality of life and family wellbeing in paediatric patients: a literature review), she underscored the importance of assessing the benefits of these treatments from a comprehensive perspective.
Likewise, Angelina Deyanova, a second-year student from the Lifelong Learning Master’s Degree in Comprehensive and Hospital-Based Paediatric Dentistry, was second runner-up in the Young Paediatric Dentist Award for Best Paper for her study “Evaluación de los niveles de ansiedad en niños y sus madres como factor de riesgo para la aparición de bruxismo del sueño en niños irlandeses: estudio transversal” (Assessment of anxiety levels in children and their mothers as a risk factor for sleep bruxism in Irish children: a cross-sectional study).
In addition to the students’ participation, the Faculty also had a notable presence through its teaching staff. Dr Fran Guinot, head of the University Master's Degree in Comprehensive and Hospital-Based Paediatric Dentistry, and Dr Ana Veloso served on the congress’s scientific and organising committee, moderating round tables and acting as panel members in the evaluation of the papers.
The participation of students and teaching staff from the Faculty in the recent SEOP Annual Meeting provided an opportunity to share knowledge, learn about the latest developments in paediatric dentistry and exchange experiences with professionals and students from other universities.
