Two podcasts by journalism students to be co-produced by La Xarxa and Ràdio 4
CompliCAT and Nòmades Catalans, from the Faculty of Communication Sciences, have been selected in the podcast project call organised by La Xarxa Audiovisual Local and Ràdio 4, aimed at discovering new talents and supporting creative audio projects in Catalan
The selected projects were presented on 11 June during the 26th edition of the Mercat Audiovisual de Catalunya in Granollers, in a pitching session where candidates had to sell their proposals. Two projects from UIC Barcelona will receive financial support after being chosen from among 54 proposals.
One of these podcasts is CompliCAT, presented by nine Journalism students from UIC Barcelona. Marc Preseguer was one of the speakers, who received support from lecturer and journalist Francesc Cano to encourage them to pursue the educational category: "It is a podcast aimed at children aged six to eight and their families, designed to address intriguing questions that children may have and to offer emotional support to parents in difficult-to-explain situations." More specifically, the student explains that "each episode addresses a complex topic in an empathetic, respectful, and easy-to-understand manner."
The CompliCAT project is by third-year Journalism students Marina Sancho, Claudia García, Jan Díaz, Eloy Collazo, Marc Preseguer, Lola Anglès, Sergi Sales, Oriol Mañé, and fourth-year student Eric Tejero. Two fourth-year Journalism students, Luis Caballero and Àlex Domínguez, will also receive funding from La Xarxa and Ràdio 4 for their proposal Nòmades Catalans.
Their podcast aims to tell the stories of Catalan footballers who live and play in distant countries such as India, Qatar, Russia, or Australia. "We want to approach it from a deeper personal perspective. Is it necessary to step out of your comfort zone to find yourself?" explained the UIC Barcelona students. For their project, they received support from faculty lecturer Kilian Sebrià, a journalist at Catalunya Ràdio. "It is a great opportunity for us to take our first steps in the professional world and gain enriching experiences," added the recent graduates.
During the 2024-2025 academic year, four other Journalism students were awarded by SER Catalunya for their fiction podcast Pels pèls, and will receive professional and financial support from the radio station to produce a pilot programme, making their names known to the country's leading media and listeners everywhere.
