Two UIC Barcelona students recognised in the Foro Cerámico Hispalyt National Project Competition

Alexander Swienton and Katarina Ratkovic, students at the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, have been awarded second runner-up in the Foro Cerámico Hispalyt National Project Competition, one of the most prestigious architecture student competitions in Spain. Their proposal, developed during the 2024-2025 academic year, was selected as the third best in Spain and the top entry from Catalonia

The project involved the design of a canoeing club in Zaragoza, with a particular focus on exposed brick façades. In this edition of the competition, the national jury evaluated a total of 44 proposals submitted by 15 architecture schools from across the country, including Granada, Navarra, Valencia, Seville, Madrid and Barcelona. The final deliberation took place on 18 July.

National-level academic recognition

The national jury, composed of renowned architects such as José Ignacio Linazasoro, Tomás Carranza and Cristóbal Crespo, awarded first prize to a team from the University of Granada, with runner-up distinctions going to the School of Architecture of Valladolid and UIC Barcelona.

Swienton and Ratkovic’s participation in the national phase followed their earlier recognition with the UIC Barcelona Local Prize, an award held in parallel at each participating school.

Awards ceremony and project dissemination

The official awards ceremony will take place on 31 October 2025 at the Official Association of Architects of Madrid (COAM), during a public event organised by Foro Cerámico. During the event, certificates will be presented to the authors of the winning projects, including both local and national awards, as well as the TFM Prize.

In addition, the winning projects will be featured in the Libro Foro Cerámico, a publication showcasing the best proposals of the academic year and serving as a platform for dissemination among professionals in the sector.
