UIC Barcelona and Dentaid create the Oral Health Classroom to promote dental research
Through this partnership, the two organisations have developed an action framework for promoting research and training among periodontics and geriatric dentistry professionals, as well as care for vulnerable people, to contribute to patient wellbeing
The Faculty of Dentistry at UIC Barcelona and Dentaid, a leading company in oral health, recently launched the UIC Barcelona-Dentaid Oral Health Classroom, a space devoted to research, teaching and patient care in the field of periodontics and geriatric dentistry.
The main aim of this cooperation agreement is to promote dental research, foster advanced training among practitioners and provide oral and dental care to the disadvantaged, thus contributing to patient wellbeing and improving the population’s oral health.
The Classroom is directed by Dr Lluís Giner, dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, and Dr Cristina Vallès and coordinated by Dr Víctor Gil and Dr Neus Carrió, all teaching staff members and researchers in the Faculty of Dentistry. Representing Dentaid Research Center in the project are Dr Vanessa Blanc and Dr Joan Gispert, both experts in innovation in oral health.
According to Dr Giner, “as dentistry professionals, we are committed to preventing and comprehensively treating oral diseases. Partnerships like this enable us to transfer to society accessible and customised solutions that ensure the best dental care possible.”
The Classroom will involve undertaking research and clinical studies linked to the University Master’s Degree in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry and the Area of Geriatric Dentistry, heightening the transfer of knowledge and academic cooperation between the two institutions.
With this initiative, UIC Barcelona now boasts four company classrooms and 14 chairs, of which three and seven, respectively, are linked to the Faculty of Dentistry, thus consolidating its commitment to research and innovation in dentistry. The project’s social dimension also dovetails with the Faculty’s social initiatives, such as the programme Caring for Smiles, Changing Lives, which offers oral health care to disadvantaged groups and comprehensive training to future dentists.
