UIC Barcelona broadens its international outlook with a new alliance with the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine (USA)
The Faculty of Dentistry at UIC Barcelona has signed a strategic agreement with the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine (SIU SDM) in the US to strengthen international cooperation in dental education
This agreement consolidates both institutions’ commitment to promoting academic excellence, high-quality research and advanced clinical training in the field of oral health. This alliance will help establish an exchange programme centred around academic and clinical observation, designed to give students an international perspective on dental education and practice.
Under this agreement, UIC Barcelona and SIU SDM students will have the opportunity to attend classes, seminars and dental procedures, as well as take part in discussions and academic activities at the host institution. Through these placements, participants will expand their overall understanding of the current challenges in oral health, engage in intercultural learning and international cooperation, discover innovative teaching methodologies in dentistry and explore new avenues for professional development in an international academic context.
Dr Lluís Giner, dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, underscored the strategic relevance of this agreement for the University, highlighting that “this partnership with the Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine strengthens our commitment to internationalisation and to offering our students enriching academic experiences. Thanks to this agreement we can continue to promote excellence in dental education and strengthen our ties with leading international institutions.”
The new alliance reflects the Faculty of Dentistry’s strategic focus on internationalisation, academic excellence, commitment to research and the comprehensive education of future dentistry professionals. It will also foster the development of joint projects, observation visits for teaching staff and new avenues for cooperation that will enrich the academic activities of both institutions.
