UIC Barcelona enters the THE World University Rankings by Subject for Education Studies for the first time and strengthens its position in Medical and Health, and Social Sciences

UIC Barcelona has been included in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject for Education Studies for the first time, while maintaining its position in Medical and Health and Social Sciences.

In Education Studies, UIC Barcelona is placed in the 401–500 band worldwide and ranks between 11 and 18 nationally among a total of 47 Spanish universities. In this field, the University excels in two key pillars: Research Quality and International Outlook, where UIC Barcelona ranks number one among Spanish universities in both indicators. These results highlight the University’s strong international student profile, as well as the excellence and consistency of its research in this field.

In Medical and Health and Social Sciences, UIC Barcelona maintains its position from the previous edition, remaining in the 601–800 band worldwide. The Medical and Health ranking includes 1,230 universities globally, while Social Sciences evaluates 1,202 institutions.

Nationally, UIC Barcelona has improved its position in both subject areas. Out of 47 universities ranked, the University is placed in the 13–31 band for Medical and Health and in the 18–29 band for Social Sciences.

In Medical and Health, UIC Barcelona has increased its score and improved its ranking position in two of the five core pillars: International Outlook and Teaching. In these indicators, the University is among the top ten Spanish universities, achieving 2nd place nationally in International Outlook and 9th place in Teaching.

Similarly, in Social Sciences, UIC Barcelona ranks among the top ten Spanish universities in International Outlook, specifically in 8th position, and has also improved its score in the Teaching.

Medical and Health covers disciplines such as Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and other health-related studies. Social Sciences includes Communication and Media Studies, Politics and International Studies (including Development Studies), Sociology, Geography and Anthropology, while Education Studies encompasses education, teacher training and academic studies in education.

The methodology used in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject is based on 18 performance indicators, grouped into five pillars: TeachingResearch EnvironmentResearch QualityIndustry and International Outlook, which are recalibrated to reflect the specific characteristics of each subject.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject provides a global classification of the world’s leading universities by discipline, covering eleven subject areas: Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Medical and Health, Computer Science, Education Studies, Engineering, Law, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Psychology and Social Sciences.

The Statistical Data and Rankings Office at UIC Barcelona aims to measure the University’s performance across multiple dimensions through data analysis and evidence, enhancing its visibility and positioning both nationally and internationally, as well as highlighting the social impact generated by global rankings and listings.
