UIC Barcelona launches the project ‘Rethinking Mobility’ in Calonge and Sant Antoni

Students from the 7th edition of the Master’s Degree in Architecture & Design Business Management, organised by the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, began the programme this January with the project “Rethinking Mobility”, a proposal that combines architecture, design, management and real territorial impact, developed in partnership with the Calonge and Sant Antoni Municipal Council.

This year’s challenge, entitled “Rethinking Mobility in Calonge and Sant Antoni: The Role of a New Primary Care Centre in Sustainable Transport”, involves analysing how the implementation of a new primary care centre in the town represents a strategic opportunity to rethink local mobility based on the criteria of sustainability, efficiency and citizen wellbeing.

The programme officially kicked off on the Barcelona Campus with a welcome session featuring members of the Barcelona Creativity & Design Foundation, along with a lecture on mobility systems and urban dynamics from El Risell.

Afterwards, the first in-person session held in the town of Calonge and Sant Antoni the following day provided students the opportunity to conduct fieldwork and identify the territory’s needs, challenges and potential, reinforcing a methodological approach based on observation, analysis and strategic thinking.

These sessions are part of the UIC Barcelona Impact Master’s Calonge initiative, one of the cornerstones of the cooperation agreement between UIC Barcelona and the Calonge and Sant Antoni Municipal Council; a programme that involves developing the UIC Barcelona–Calonge Education Hub: a specialised training centre aimed at generating knowledge, fostering synergies and creating new educational and professional opportunities in the town, while strengthening the connection between the University, territory and society.
