UIC Barcelona law students gain first-hand experience of international diplomacy at the United Nations
Around 30 students from the Faculty of Law at UIC Barcelona have taken part in the Change the World Model United Nations (CWMUN) 2026 programme, an international initiative that brings together university students from across the globe. Two students from the Faculty were recognised among the best delegations participating in the programme.
The 2026 edition of Change the World Model United Nations (CWMUN) was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York and brought together nearly 30 students from the Faculty of Law at UIC Barcelona. Each year, this international programme brings together thousands of students worldwide to simulate the work of the UN’s principal bodies and to promote debate, negotiation and a deeper understanding of the most pressing global challenges.
During the simulation, students represented different Member States and served on a range of committees, including the Security Council. In this setting, they addressed issues of major international significance, such as global security, the protection of human rights, peacekeeping and multilateral cooperation. Participation required rigorous prior preparation, including the drafting of position papers and proposed resolutions, as well as their defence in a demanding and highly competitive environment.
Recognition of excellence
As part of their participation, students Lucas Martínez and Julie Le Goff received the “Delegate’s Award”, granted by vote among all participating delegations. Both students stood out for the depth of their preparation and the clarity and persuasiveness of their contributions, successfully securing approval for their proposed resolution. Martínez and Le Goff represented China, presenting and defending its position with precision and effectiveness.

Global, practice-oriented learning
Taking part in initiatives such as CWMUN allows students to develop essential skills for their legal education, including public speaking, critical reasoning, negotiation and teamwork in multicultural environments. In addition, direct exposure to the institutional environment of the United Nations offers a practical perspective that significantly enriches academic learning.
Through experiences of this kind, UIC Barcelona reinforces its commitment to international, cross-disciplinary education focused on academic excellence, encouraging students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings and to develop a global understanding of law and its impact on society.
