UIC Barcelona PhD student Victor Sierra has come fifth in the #HiloThesis national scientific dissemination competition

His thread on video games and advertising was awarded one of three special distinctions out of the 391 doctoral students who entered the competition

“Pass, or there will be no consolation and no console” are the first characters of the thread that led to the PhD student on our Communication, Education and Humanities programme at UIC Barcelona Víctor Sierra to come fifth in the competition and receive a special distinction in the first edition of the “Your Doctoral Thesis in a Twitter thread: #HiloThesis” competition organised by Crue Universities. Sierra presented his thesis, entitled Videojuegos como canal de comunicación en España” (Videogames as a communication channel in Spain) a thread of fifteen tweets recognised by the jury as one of the best out of the 391 contestants that entered the competition.

The UIC Barcelona PhD student presented the context of his methodology and his main hypothesis in an attractive way, showing why he believes that digital and technological exposure have directly influenced the evolution, development and consolidation of video games as an advertising channel in Spain. He did so using different audiovisual documents, creations and tweets that generated interaction with users of this network. “It was not easy to find a balance between academic language and the tone used in social media, but it was worthwhile,” explains Victor Sierra.

This competition is an initiative set up by Cue, in collaboration with the Network of Dissemination and Scientific Culture (RedDivulga) in the Crue-R+D+i sector, which aims to promote the development of communication and scientific dissemination skills among researchers in Spanish universities.
