UIC Barcelona strengthens academic ties with US universities on a university trip to New York and Philadelphia
The International Relations Service of UIC Barcelona travelled to New York and Philadelphia from the 24 to 26 February with the aim of promoting new international double bachelor’s degree programmes and strengthening relations with American institutions
A team from UIC Barcelona formed by the Vice-Rector for International Relations, Eduardo Mirpuri, and the Global Partnerships Manager, Reetta Heikkinen, held meetings with representatives of six prestigious universities in February. This trip is part of the strategic plan of the university, which aims to expand its network of international collaborations and offer more opportunities to its students, faculty and administrative staff.
Holy Family University (Philadelphia), University of Pennsylvania (Ivy League) and Rutgers University have strengthened ties to further explore possibilities for student exchange, teacher collaboration and summer programme options for both institutions. At St. John’s University, progress has been made towards introducing dual bachelor’s degree programmes in the area of Law, Policy & Government, and a dual bachelor’s degree in Political Science is being considered with Pace University. Columbia University (Ivy League) has also established contacts for future academic collaborations with UIC Barcelona.

These meetings have served to strengthen and consolidate links with these universities, accelerate collaborations already in progress and explore new avenues of cooperation, reinforcing the internationalisation of UIC Barcelona. With the exception Columbia University, all the institutions visited already have official agreements with UIC Barcelona, some of which have been developed over several years.
Universities in the United States have stressed the importance of maintaining and strengthening these international relations in a global context marked by political and social challenges. UIC Barcelona is already preparing for future meetings, such as the NAFSA 2025 conference in San Diego, California; the most important internationalisation event in higher education in the USA, where Eduardo Mirpuri and Reetta Heikkinen will once again represent UIC Barcelona.
This trip reinforces UIC Barcelona’s commitment to academic excellence and the creation of international opportunities for its students, teachers and staff, consolidating its position as a globally connected university committed to training professionals capable of facing the challenges of the 21st century.
