UIC Barcelona takes part in the 12th UNIRUN
The rector, Alfonso Méndiz, attended the official presentation of the University Race at the Old Estrella Damm Brewery, where the running shirt designs for the twelve participating Catalan universities were unveiled
UIC Barcelona will once again take part in the UNIRUN, the race that brings together Catalan universities in a 5,000-metre athletics competition. The 12th edition is scheduled to take place on Sunday 1 March 2026 at 09.30. It will start in the Parc del Fòrum’s main esplanade and run along the seafront of Barcelona’s Sant Martí district before finishing in the Parc dels Auditoris.
The official presentation of the sporting competition was held on Monday 16 February at the Old Estrella Damm Brewery, where each university unveiled its running shirt for this edition. The rector of UIC Barcelona, Alfonso Méndiz, was on hand as the University's institutional representative, alongside representatives from the other participating universities.
Registration for this year’s edition has now closed, after all 7,000 bib numbers were taken within just 19 days. In the case of UIC Barcelona, 184 members of the university community will take part in the event.
The race also has a social dimension. For every person registered, one euro has been donated to Osona contra el càncer, a non-profit organisation that strives to support people affected by cancer and their families, while also promoting prevention, education and research on the disease.
The patron for the 12th edition of the UNIRUN is Abril Conesa, a former elite synchronised swimmer who won two bronze medals at the World Championships and a silver and bronze at the European Championships, competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and is currently a sports nutritionist.
The event is organised by the twelve Catalan universities and Catalan University Sport (ECU), with support from the Government of Catalonia’s Secretariat General for Sport and Physical Activity and the Barcelona Municipal Council.
With its involvement, UIC Barcelona, through its Sports Service, reaffirms its commitment to promoting physical activity and the values of sport within the university community.
