The 27th National Congress and 3rd International Congress of the Spanish Society for Medical and Health Sciences Education (SEDEM) will take place at the Sant Cugat Campus on 19, 20 and 21 November. Organised by the Spanish Society for Medical and Health Sciences Education in collaboration with UIC, the congress will bring together national and international experts over three days to share experience, knowledge and initiatives aimed at further advancing the quality of medical education and the training of future healthcare professionals.

Hosting the event at the Sant Cugat Campus is a recognition of the educational model developed by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, which is based on practical, innovative and interdisciplinary training. This approach places students at the centre of the learning process and fosters the development of the competences required to respond to the current challenges facing the healthcare system.

“Medical education must evolve in step with the needs of society and the healthcare system. Hosting SEDEM's annual congress provides an opportunity to share knowledge, establish new collaborations and continue advancing educational models that prepare outstanding professionals in scientific, technical and human terms,” said Dr Esther Calbo, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

A forum for reflecting on the future of medical education

The congress will serve as a platform for discussing some of the key challenges facing medical education. Over the three days, leading national and international specialists in the field will address topics including the integration of artificial intelligence into teaching, the development of critical thinking and teaching competences, the quality of clinical placements, sustainability and planetary health in medical education, and the role of simulation in developing clinical competences and enhancing patient safety.

UIC's selection as the host institution reflects the University's commitment to an educational model that connects teaching, research and clinical practice with the aim of training professionals equipped to address healthcare challenges from a scientific, ethical and humanistic perspective.

The congress will also mark the beginning of the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Bachelor's Degree in Medicine.
