Introduction
The Master's thesis involves designing, planning, and implementing the most effective pediatric physiotherapy intervention using scientific evidence. The skills acquired throughout the Master's program, along with the formulation of critical questions, enable students to clearly defend their proposed pediatric physiotherapy intervention with well-reasoned arguments and justifications. This entails integrating the course content, culminating in the completion of a research project.
Pre-course requirements
In order to defend the Master’s Final Project, it is mandatory to have completed the rest of the courses in the program.
Objectives
OBJECTIVES
-
To demonstrate the ability to integrate acquired learning outcomes with the execution of a research project.
-
To acquire skills in formulating topics, problems, and data collection and analysis techniques.
-
To recognize and identify various studies of the same type with a common objective, following a specific methodology to combine the results of the studies and obtain overall measurement parameters using a set of statistical techniques.
-
To be able to conduct research using methodological resources for teaching and learning pediatric physiotherapy under the criteria of Evidence-Based Physiotherapy.
Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme
Basic and general competencies
CB6 - Possess and understand knowledge that provides a basis or opportunity for originality in the development and/or application of ideas, often in a research context.
CB7 - Students know how to apply the knowledge acquired and their problem-solving ability in new or little-known environments within broader (or multidisciplinary) contexts related to their area of study.
CB8 - Students are able to integrate knowledge and face the complexity of formulating judgments from information that, while incomplete or limited, includes reflections on the social and ethical responsibilities linked to the application of their knowledge and judgments.
CB9 - Students know how to communicate their conclusions, knowledge and the reasons that support them to both specialized and non-specialized public media in a clear and unambiguous way.
CB10 - Students possess the learning skills that will enable to continue studying in a way that will be largely self-directed or autonomous.
CG1 - Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary team while also being autonomous and proactive in resolving conflicts or problems between different professional perspectives.
CG4 - Ability to plan and manage time and activities efficiently to ensure effective organization and optimal adaptability to unforeseen circumstances.
Transversal Competencies
CT3 - Communicate both orally and in writing using correct scientific terminology in each specialization of physiotherapy and health sciences, in both national and international contexts.
CT4 - Use information and communication technologies effectively to ensure continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.
Specific Competencies
CE3 - Design, plan, and implement the most efficient pediatric physiotherapy intervention; monitor and evaluate responses using scientific evidence.
CE7 - Stay updated and expand knowledge on child development, learning, and motor control, as well as pathologies, diagnostic processes, and therapeutic strategies presented by the scientific community.
CE8 - Defend pediatric physiotherapy interventions using clear, precise and context-appropriate arguments and justifications while valuing the contributions of others.
Learning outcomes of the subject
The student:
-
Integrates all the learning outcomes acquired through this master's program.
-
Assumes the ability to conduct a research project, including developing a work plan: topic, problems, data collection techniques, and data analysis.
-
Assumes the ability to conduct a Systematic Review, systematically identifying and evaluating several studies of the same type and with a common objective, following a specific methodology; and knows how to combine the results of the studies to obtain overall measurement parameters using a set of statistical techniques.
-
Develops a Clinical Practice Guideline, systematically preparing recommendations following the procedures of Evidence-Based Physiotherapy.
-
Produces and presents the results of an original research project or prepares and presents an educational project that justifies the use of methodological resources for teaching and learning physiotherapy according to evidence-based criteria.
Syllabus
No specific content is established for this subject, as it involves integrating the content developed throughout the Master's program.
If the research project, systematic review, Clinical Practice Guideline, or Master's Thesis lead to the need to expand knowledge, the self-directed learning agreement will serve as the training framework through which the student will develop their autonomy in this process.

Evaluation systems and criteria
In blended
The assessment system will have a formative component consisting of the creation of a portfolio in which the student will compile evidence of their learning and improvement, along with feedback documents from the supervisor/advisor during virtual and in-person monitoring. This assessment serves as a filter by the supervisor prior to the submission of the thesis and will account for 30% of the final grade for the Master's Thesis.
The projects will be assessed by a university examination board, as indicated in Royal Decree 1393/2007, of October 29, which regulates official university studies. The presentation and defense of the Master's Thesis before the panel may be conducted virtually. The evaluation made by the examination board of the written work and its presentation represents 70% of the final grade.
Students must achieve a grade higher than 6 in the supervisor's assessment to be eligible to present and defend their Master's Thesis before examination board.
The examining board will be appointed by the Master's Program Scientific Committee. This committee is responsible, among other things, for evaluating and publishing the list of accepted master's theses for defense, including the examining boards, dates, times, and locations of the defenses.
