Introduction

The purpose of the Management Skills subject is to introduce and familiarize students with the basic management competencies and skills, essential for effective leadership within the framework of organizations, improving interaction with other people, knowing communication and leadership strategies and techniques, among other.

It is a practical subject with three modules on different topics. Each module develops a managerial skill or soft skill.

Each module will be led by a subject expert. Theoretical content is combined with the performance of different practical activities associated with each competence or skill to be developed.

The subject has 3 credits assigned. It takes place during the first semester of the fourth year.

Objectives

  • Understand the need to possess certain skills beyond the technical competencies of management.
  • Understand the main methods and systems to effectively manage work teams.
  • Learn to make professional and impactful presentations using CANVA software
  • Learn some effective communication techniques.
  • Learn basic negotiation and conflict resolution techniques.

Competences/Learning outcomes of the degree programme

The methodology will be dynamic and varied, focused on practical learning.

Throughout each module, in-class evaluation activities will be carried out. In addition, deliveries or work will be made during the course.

Each of the three modules is independent of the others.

In order to evaluate each module, all the proposed deliveries and activities must be carried out. If a student has not been able to carry out an in-class activity due to not being present, or has missed the module classes, she must make up that activity for another compensatory activity that will be indicated. If there are too many absences, the teacher of the module can give the student a Not Evaluated grade in that module, so that he or she suspends it.

Each Module has its specific evaluation system (it will be explained by each teacher).

Evaluation First call:

The subject does not have a final exam. Each student is graded for each of the three modules separately. The student must pass each module separately to be able to pass the subject.

a) If each of the three modules has been passed separately, the final grade is obtained as follows:

Final Subject Grade = (Module Grade-1 x 0.35) + (Module Grade-2 x 0.3) + (Module Grade-3 x 0.35)

b) In case of failing one or more modules: the student SUSPENDS the subject in the first call. Your final grade for the first call will be: either the average of the remaining modules, if that grade is less than 5; or a 4.5 if the average of the remaining modules was 5 or more.

The teacher of each module will indicate how it is recovered in the second call.

Second Call Evaluation:

Each module failed in the first call is evaluated based on the indications that each teacher has established that must be carried out in order to pass their module in the second call.

It is necessary to have passed all the modules individually to pass the subject.

a) If each of the three modules has been passed separately, the final grade is obtained as follows:

Final Subject Grade = (Module Grade-1 x 0.35) + (Module Grade-2 x 0.3) + (Module Grade-3 x 0.35)

b) In case of suspending a module:

The student does not pass the subject in the second call. Your second call grade will be: either the average of the remaining modules, if that grade is less than 4.5; or a 4.5 if the average of the remaining modules was 5 or more.
