Introduction
The aim of this program is to provide continuity in the German language and consolidate the content and knowledge acquired with a focus on German as a second language for business.
The program provides both language skills and sociocultural knowledge related to German.
Pre-course requirements
The minimum overall level recommended before the start of the course is to have completed level A1 in German.
Objectives
Prepare and equip students with basic vocabulary, grammar, and oral and written communication skills so that they can begin to communicate in German in their professional field.

Learning outcomes of the subject
The student will be able to:
1. Understand simple texts with an economic and business focus in German.
2. Complete oral/written assignments analyzing and synthesizing information in German.
3. Understand the main ideas presented in German by teachers or other students discussing basic topics in German, with a special focus on economic and business topics, as well as formulate or respond to questions and be able to present ideas in an orderly and coherent manner.
4. Work in teams and/or solve problems and make decisions in small groups, developing interpersonal skills.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of other cultures and customs and respect them.
6. Work independently, plan and organize their learning, and self-assess their work, both in specific and general language, as well as prepare for lifelong learning.
Syllabus
The German course is a continuation of the basic introductory German course. The course consolidates knowledge of level A1 and is geared towards level A2.

Teaching and learning activities
In person
In German class, students actively participate in the process of learning German. Through different materials and tools, students develop skills and acquire knowledge in all areas of the language. The texts and work materials are characterized by their authenticity and relevance to everyday life and the business world.

The first and the second sitting:
Students must attend 80% of the class in order to sit for the final exam.
The final exam must be passed with a 5.
For failing final grades between 4.0 and 4.9 in the first sitting, each student will have to make up any missed assignments or repeat those on which they received a failing grade.

Grades below 4 in the 2nd sitting:
Students with a mark below 4.0 in the first sitting will have to make up 100% of the subject in the second sitting by doing all the following and passing with a final grade of 5 minimum on each part:
1. A final exam: 50%.
2. A 5-minute presentation (25%) arranged before day of final exam: 25%
3. A writing exam on the day of the final exam: 25%
Class participation:
Participation is assessed and accounts for 15% of the grade.
What does participation entail?
- Arrive on time to class and return after the break (1:40 minutes of class time).
- Participate in all activities with a positive and fulfilling attitude.
- Try to speak German as much as possible.
- Listen to the teacher and classmates.
- Do not misuse laptops or cell phones in class.
- Complete all homework or preparatory activities assigned.
The following reasons are considered justified absences:
a) Illness – provide a medical certificate
b) Appearance in court – provide legal documentation
c) National professional sports competition
d) Death of a close relative – provide documentation
The documentation must be submitted to the professor as soon as possible, and the faculty must be notified if the absence is for a prolonged period.

Faculty rules regarding plagiarism or unauthorized use of Artificial Intelligence will be strictly enforced.
