Introduction

The course TELEVISION PROGRAMMING provides students with the fundamental knowledge of scheduling and channel selection for audiovisual content distribution. Through the systems used to collect and interpret data on audience viewing habits across both traditional and digital media, students will gain an understanding of the design, organisation, and management of the television schedule as part of a programming strategy aimed at audience acquisition, retention, and segmentation.

Objectives

  • To understand the fundamentals of audience measurement systems and their role within the audiovisual industry.
  • To analyse the main indicators and methodologies used to collect and interpret audience data across traditional and digital media environments.
  • To understand how audience data are applied to planning, television programming, and strategic decision-making within audiovisual organisations.
  • To analyse television programming strategies and their relationship to audience acquisition, retention, and segmentation.
  • To evaluate the impact of audience measurement on both the primary and secondary markets for audiovisual content.
  • To understand the impact of digital transformation and emerging platforms on audiovisual consumption patterns and programming strategies.
  • To develop the ability to interpret audience data in order to critically evaluate programming decisions and content distribution strategies.
  • To apply the acquired knowledge to the analysis of real-world cases in television programming and audience consumption.

  1. Methodologies for measuring and analyzing audiences

  3. Television programming strategies
  4. Digital audiences: measurement, analysis and optimization systems
  5. Social audiences
  6. Cross-media audiences
  7. Measurement and analysis of audiovisual content


Module II: Radio and programming audiences:

  1. The task of radio programming: qualitative and quantitative tools
  2. Traditional programming models: generalist radio and thematic radio formats.
  3. Digital disruption. New platforms, new audiences. Podcasting.
  4. Overview of the evolution of the audience market according to formats
  5. Characterization of the state market and the Catalan market.
  6. The future of radio programming
