Introduction

Television Production is a 4 ECTS credit course taught during the second semester of the third year, which aims to open horizons and delve deeper into the practical part of audiovisual production within the television medium. The course works on the key concepts of language and audiovisual production in order to be able to plan and develop different multi-camera formats.

This is a completely practical course, where all sessions are held on set and with the idea that all students perform. The entire audiovisual production process is worked on, from the idea to the final editing of pre-recorded videos as well as different live practices on set.

Pre-course requirements

Basic knowledge of recording and audio-visual editing are required.

Objectives

To know the processes and tasks of Realization in television from the order to the delivery of the final product, as much in live programs as in productions recorded previously.

Achieve maturity to be able to face with guarantees the audiovisual realization in different formats and contexts.

The subject is very practical and its aim is to achieve skills in television production through planning, recording and post-production.

Learning outcomes of the subject

Students, after taking the course, will be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes:

  • They will master the techniques of television production.
  • They will be able to establish performance criteria in the most current television genres.
  • They will have the ability to organize and coordinate all the logistics required by any audiovisual production. They will apply criteria in the different decisions within the television processes.
  • They will handle the cameras and other equipment of the realization with ease.
  • They will be able to make reports, which analyze the different elements that make up any television program.
  • They will perfect the audiovisual language.
  • They will consistently use the creative possibilities of the image as a narrative element.
  • They will become aware of the importance of visual resources in the different communicative messages.

Syllabus

1. BASIC CONCEPTS OF THE AUDIOVISUAL LANGUAGE APPLIED TO THE REALIZATION.

The basic principles and rules. The plan: framing, transitions, expressive planning.

2. PROCESSES AND STAGES OF THE REALIZATION.

From idea to Realization. Breakdowns and Production documents: scale, plant, production plan.

3. CANNED TELEVISION REALIZATION.

Filming planning. Equipment and documentation.

4. THE LIVE PERFORMANCE.

Multicamera Realization Planning. Production phases, documentation and protocols. Staging.

Management of technical and human resources for a live broadcast.

Teaching and learning activities

We will function as an audiovisual production company and students will devise, record and produce different audiovisual pieces. Classes are held on set in order to get the maximum number of hours of real practice.

TRAINING ACTIVITY ECTS CREDITS
Lectures. In lectures, lecturers/professors not only transmit content or knowledge, but also, and above all else, attitudes, motivation, skills and values, etc. They also ensure that participants can express their opinions and arguments to the other students. 0.8
Focused Praxis. Handing in occasional exercises to learn theory through practice. 0.4
Practical workshop. A highly practical working activity, where students can acquire skills that are practical or also theoretical (intellectual skills, logical skills, critical skills, intellectual learning skills, study skills, quoting skills, etc). 2,2
Peer learning. The aim of this activity is to ensure that students gain the ability to analyse and be critical. One way of achieving this is by correcting their peers' exercises and results, etc. Each student will be evaluated twice: as both a recipient and a transmitter of critical knowledge. 0,6

Evaluation systems and criteria

The assessment will be based on different assignments that students will have to submit in groups and where the documentation provided, the concept of making each piece and the final result will be evaluated.

The exercises and weights are:

- Conducting an interview on set: 20%

- Conducting a debate on set: 35%

- Conducting a musical performance on set: 35%

- Attendance and participation: 10%

To pass in the first call, you must have completed all the assignments and have an average of 5. To pass in the second call and subsequent calls, you must submit an individual written assignment to be determined by the teacher.

When submitting the assignments, the faculty's regulations regarding spelling mistakes and plagiarism will be strictly observed.
