He has a degree in Physics and a PhD in Materials Science and Technology.

Professional experience

Lecturer at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya in the Department of Basic Sciences. He has a degree in Physics and a PhD in Materials Science and Technology. He has carried out research stays at the Forestry Research Center of Lourizán (with Prof. Dr. José Antonio Vega Hidalgo), Department of Physical Chemistry of the University of the Basque Country (with Prof. Dr. Issa Antonio Katime Amashta), Department of Applied Physics of the University of Granada (with Prof. Dr. Roque Hidalgo Álvarez), Department of Condensed Matter Physics of the University of Valladolid (with Prof. Dr. José Carlos Rodríguez Cabello) and Department of Analytical Chemistry of the University of Zaragoza (with Prof. Dr. Francisco Carlos Laborda García). He was a postdoctoral researcher at the Universidade do Minho (Portugal) and the Université de Bordeaux 1 (France). Dr. Castro has been involved in several research projects both nationally and internationally with research centers.

He teaches different subjects such as "Biomaterials and Biocompatibility", "Advanced Materials and Materials Selection", "Materials Conformation Technology", "Micro and Nanotechnology". He has also taught "Experimental Techniques IV", "Solid State Physics Laboratory", "Nanoparticles: Synthesis and Characterization" at the University of Santiago de Compostela and "Clusters, Nebulae and Galaxies", "Observation of the Sky with Binoculars" "Astronomical Observation of Clusters, Nebulae and Galaxies" at the National University of Distance Education. He obtained his Master's degree in Environmental Nanotechnology from the University of Zaragoza. Since 2019, he has been developing his scientific career at Bioengineering Institute of Technology (BIT) of the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya. University Expert in Plastics and Rubber by the National University of Distance Education. His teaching experience is wide, focused on bioengineering and physics degrees, but also in postgraduate studies in Science and Technology of Colloids and Interfaces and summer courses in Introduction to Astronomy. Since 2002, his scientific career has focused on the study of nanomaterials, from functional and smart materials to bioactive materials. He is a researcher in the Biomaterials for Tissue Regeneration Group at the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, researching on the creation of topographies in silica-based and 3D printed scaffolds for bone tissue regeneration. His scientific articles are published in the most important journals in his field. He has participated in more than twenty international and national congresses.

Professionally, he has worked in different fields of physics, from astronomical guide in Volta Montana to assistant to the quality manager in Simetrycal. In addition, he is involved in science outreach with collaborations in radio, blogs and informative articles and lectures throughout the country. He is a member of the Real Sociedad Española de Física, Colegio Oficial de Físicos, Sociedad Española de Materiales, Asociación Galega de Comunicación de Cultura Científica e Tecnolóxica, Associació Catalana de Comunicació Científica, Asociación Hablando de Ciencia, Asociación Astronómica Sirio de Pontevedra.
