Functions performed: Development of research tasks (fieldwork and analysis of
data, fundamentally), linked to the multicentre national study entitled "Determination of the
reference values of maximum respiratory pressures and nasal pressure in inhalation
maximum in healthy adult Spanish population", whose results were presented at congresses
National (Spanish Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR) and Spanish Association
Physiotherapists (AEF) and international (European Respiratory Society). The first article
derived from this work was published in the journal Arxius de Bronconeumología (SEPAR,
DECIL 1, FI 8.7) in August 2023 (DOI: 10.1016/j.arbres.2023.08.016). We are currently continuing
elaborating other publications framed within this project.
Qualification for teaching and/or inv.: Respiratory diseases can be treated with dysfunction
respiratory muscles, which can result in hypercapnia, respiratory infections
recurrent and ineffective coughing, compromising the ventilatory capacity of those who suffer them.
Scientific evidence suggests that respiratory muscle training has an impact
positively in these respects. Prior to this intervention, assessment is required
systematic and standardized of these muscles to determine if there is dysfunction. The tests
most common in the clinical field to evaluate this musculature are respiratory pressures
maximums and nasal pressure in maximum inhalation (SNIP). In order to interpret them we need
to have normal values obtained in healthy populations. Through this research project
we have developed the new reference equations for maximum respiratory pressures and
SNIP. The results have been quickly transferred to clinical research and practice
healthcare, improving clinical care in its different dimensions, promoting health,
prevention of disease, treatment and rehabilitation of respiratory diseases. El
link of the team members with Hospitals of the National Health System (SNS) and certain
universities have facilitated the process of transferring results to the clinical field.
