Learning from Gaudí in the 21st century | Barcelona World Capital of Architecture
The Barcelona Campus of UIC Barcelona will host the exhibition “Learning from Gaudí in the 21st century” from 3 to 5 June, as part of the Sixth International Conference on Biodigital Architecture and Genetic Design, within the programme of Barcelona World Capital of Architecture 2026.
The activity is organised by the Institute of Biodigital Architecture and Genetic Design, the Genetic Architectures Research Group, and the Master’s Degree in Biodigital Architecture at UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, directed by Dr Alberto T. Estévez.
The programme will begin on 3 June at 17.00 with a round table moderated by Alberto T. Estévez, featuring Galdric Santana, director of the Gaudí Chair at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, and Pablo Lorenzo-Eiroa, architect and expert in the application of artificial intelligence to architecture.
During the discussion, participants will examine the impact and influence of Antoni Gaudí on the centenary of his death, as well as his invaluable contribution to the field of biodigital architecture.
Presentation of previously unseen works by Gaudí
The exhibition, open to visitors from 3 to 5 June in the University’s Saló de Grau, will showcase 3D models of previously unseen works by Antoni Gaudí. These include a lamp designed by the architect and reconstructed from an original sketch, as well as a three-dimensional representation of an ambitious project he developed in Morocco: The Franciscan Catholic Missions in Tangier.
For the first time, thanks to the 3D printing of Antoni Gaudí’s drawings, these works will be brought to life, and the speakers will reveal the insights and creative processes behind the project.
Book: ‘Learning from Gaudí in the 21st century’
During the opening of the exhibition, on 3 June at 17.00, architect Alberto T. Estévez will present the book Learning from Gaudí in the 21st century, which brings together chapters published in recent years on research into Gaudí’s work.
