UIC Barcelona's Master's in Biodigital Architecture is a pioneering programme of UIC Barcelona School of Architecture that combines architecture, biology and new digital trends. Since the year 2000 this programme has offered a unique approach to architecture from a biological and digital perspective.
The teaching programme establishes points of contact between new cybernetic-digital and ecological-environmental techniques. It incorporates experimental concepts, methods and works that use genetic-driven software, evolutionary processes, emerging systems, algorithms, parametric models and scripting. An innovative view of architecture that draws from areas such as genetic versus generative, natural versus digital and the impact of new biologies.
An avant-garde architecture and design programme that integrates the latest developments in conceptualisation and projection technology: Data-Driven Production, CNC numerical control machines, 3D printers... In short, a non-standard form of architecture that applies and promotes the genetic and digital principles of variation, mutation and hybridisation.
Prospective students
If you hold a university degree in Architecture, Engineering, Fine Arts, Design, Landscaping, Biology or Genetics, this master’s degree is for you.
No prior knowledge of cybernetics or ecology is required — just curiosity, creativity, and a desire to shape the architecture of the future.

Students of the Master’s Degree in Biodigital Architecture at UIC Barcelona have access to an exclusive laboratory designed to support research and production in an experimental and multidisciplinary environment. This space becomes a true hub for digital fabrication and computational design, where creative thinking takes shape through prototypes, structures and installations.
The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, including:
- Advanced 3D printers, such as Felix 3D, WASP, and the Felix BioPrinter for experimental biofabrication
- An AXYZ CNC machine for high-precision cutting and milling
- A CO₂ laser cutting machine (PC 10 80) for work with sheets and organic materials
- Microscopes and microscopy tools for exploring biological patterns and natural structures
- A fully equipped model shop for building physical models, structural testing and manual assembly
In addition, students have access to a complete suite of professional software for parametric design and simulation, including:
- Rhinoceros, RhinoScript, RhinoCAM, RhinoNEST
- Grasshopper for visual programming
- 3D Studio Max, TopMod, TopSolid, and Maya
This technological ecosystem enables students to experiment with new formal languages, explore smart materials, build organic structures, and develop projects that connect nature and the architecture of the future.

Who can apply?
This programme is aimed at university graduates from the following areas: Architecture, Engineering, Fine Arts, Design, Landscaping, Biology or Genetics, this is the right master's degree for you. No previous specialised knowledge of cybernetics or ecology is required.
