Within the context of Dentistry today, minimally invasive restorations are on the increase. Continuous updates ensure that adhesive restorations are a strong point in conservative dentistry daily practice.
Professionals seek a theoretical and practical workshop to learn how to fit inlays step by step.
Course objectives
The purpose of this course is to teach students the practical and theoretical skills to restore teeth that have experienced a loss of dental structure through indirect adhesive restorations. Throughout the course we will teach students the criteria to choose the different indirect restorations, how to design them correctly, as well as the different forms of provisionalisation and cementation that can be used.
Throughout the course students will learn the following concepts:
- Characteristics of biomechanics and teeth.
- Concepts of adhesion.
- Capped teeth: Inlays and crowns. Minimally invasive restorations.
- Reconstructive materials.
- Design of the various inlays.
- Concept of “Immediate Dentin Sealing”.
- Build-up.
- Provisional restorations.
- Taking impressions.
- Material for cementing indirect restorations.
- Techniques for undertaking indirect restorations.
- Cementation techniques.
Competences to be acquired by students
So they can undertake the following actions.
- Correctly isolate teeth.
- Undertake a correct build-up and immediate dentine sealing.
- Know how to undertake a design for an inlay correctly.
- Know how to undertake a design for an onlay correctly.
- Know how to undertake a design for an overlay correctly.
- Know the different types of materials.
- Know and be able to implement two different inlay cementation techniques.

Prospective students
This course is intended for general dentists and stomatologists.
Curriculum
Friday
Design and cut of inlays
- Explanation of the different types of inlays, their design and indications.
- Cutting out inlays, onlays and overlays from large plaster models, in order to learn how to design them correctly.
- Undertaking diagnosis of the type of inlay necessary for different lesions, using a typodont.
- Undertaking correct isolation and explanation of the concept: “immediate dentine sealing.”
- Creating a build-up, or resetting the edges and cutting the inlays of the different teeth to be treated.
- Explanation of the different types of material that can be used to create an inlay and discussion of the material required for each treatment.
Saturday
Provisionalisation and cementation of inlays
- Different types of impression-making.
- Provisionalisation of indirect restorations.
- Techniques for undertaking indirect restorations.
- Cementation of the inlays with dual cementation.
- Cementation of the inlays with photopolymerized cementation and ultrasounds.
