Assessment method
An online self-assessment test will be carried out at the end of the course so that students can assess the achievement of their personal goals and their knowledge of the content of the course.
Who is it aimed at?
Qualified dentists (graduates in dentistry), maxillofacial surgeons and specialists in stomatology.
Presentation
Oral radiology has undergone an unprecedented technological transformation over the past decade. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has evolved from an emerging technology into a standard feature in most modern dental clinics. At present, a very high proportion of dental practices are equipped with CBCT systems, making them an essential tool for high-quality clinical diagnosis.
This course directly addresses this training gap by offering a rigorous academic alternative that goes beyond commercial training and provides:
- Clinical–strategic use of CBCT software Not only learning what each tool does, but understanding when, where and why to use it in order to optimise diagnostic outcomes. This distinguishes academic training from manufacturer-led commercial sessions, which are typically limited to technical instruction.
- Practical interpretation of CBCT in real clinical cases, using a systematic and reproducible methodology that ensures diagnostic consistency
- Integrated clinical application across different specialties, linking each radiological finding to concrete therapeutic decisions
- Development of systematic radiological image interpretation, ensuring consistency, safety and diagnostic quality in daily clinical practice
Course objectives
1. Overall objective
To train dental professionals in the practical interpretation of three-dimensional radiological studies through the systematic analysis of clinical cases, developing advanced diagnostic competencies.
2. Specific objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Use CBCT interpretation software confidently and judiciously, carrying out a complete and systematic review from start to finish in accordance with a structured interpretation protocol, ensuring that no anatomical structures or pathological findings are overlooked.
- Identify and characterise pathological signs according to their clinical relevance across different areas of dental practice.
- Apply the knowledge acquired to real clinical cases encountered in daily practice, integrating radiological diagnosis with therapeutic decision-making.
- Establish appropriate referral criteria and communicate effectively with other specialists on the basis of radiological findings.
- Demonstrate awareness of current developments in oral radiology technologies.
