Around 300 international participants attend the second online seminar on family support, organised by the IESF

The online seminar, which explored how to support families in a changing society, was attended by participants from forty different countries. The session was part of a series of preparatory events for a forthcoming workshop in May 2022.

Led by Marc Grau, a researcher at the UIC Barcelona Institute for Advanced Family Studies (IESF), this second online seminar explored how to support families “in light of the current fragility of family relationships, due in large part to the use of time and the dynamics created in the workplace”.

The event was attended by María Álvarez de las Asturias, founder of the Coincidir office, that offers personal and family counselling, mediation and conflict resolution; Mónica Larruy, an expert in educational counselling and mother to seven male children, three of whom are deaf; and Amparo Lluch, mediator and coach, a marriage and family therapist, graduate in law from Salzburg and Innsbruck, and specialist in European and International Public Law, joined the event via videoconference.

The session was held on the television set at the Faculty of Communication Sciences’ Digital Media Studios, and addressed the most important features or characteristics of current family relationships such as how to provide family support by creating a relationship based on trust and paradigmatic or illustrative cases, in which this support can help prevent situations of greater severity. The speakers described some of the profiles of individuals they support and the ideal help to provide them with.

The aim of these online seminars is to give attendees a first-hand understanding of the perspective of experts and to invite contributions from participants. The next online seminar will take place in March. The workshop, which is scheduled to take place on 13, 14 and 15 May on the University’s Barcelona Campus, already has more than two hundred attendees signed up.
